ROV Odysseus 6K is an easily transportable, extremely capable and highly affordable deep sea system that integrates into ships of opportunity and is available on a global basis. Designed by PRS and built by MPH Engineering, Odysseus excels at all tasks. Whether supporting the installation and maintenance of ocean observation systems, executing time-critical search, rescue and recovery operations, surveying and performing work tasks for industry, conducting video and still image transects, biological and geological sampling, film operations, or exploration, Odysseus is the perfect choice.
MULTIDISCIPLINARY SAMPLING ON EVERY DIVE
Odysseus 6K utilizes an array of customized skids, especially those specific to environmental baseline and monitoring for deep sea minerals work. Our largest skid package features a multichambered suction sampler, swing arms for D-samplers, large bio boxes, a hydraulically-controlled sliding tray, and push cores for high quantity and high-quality samples, with long-duration collecting for multiple objectives available. The tool/science skid is supported by spare hydraulic functions, pre-populated spare sensor bulkheads, spare fibers, and available power to meet the needs of most sampling equipment. Odysseus also includes a skid system for deployment of Ocean Bottom Seismometer Nodes and skid/front porch combination for our integrated lifting fixture. Customizable skid systems may be equipped with an additional valve pack with 6 positions at full pressure (~2000psi), along with cameras, customized and standard hydraulic tools. PRS designs and fabricates custom tool and science skids for all specialized needs. Many of our skids are designed to keep the visual field in front of the ROV unobstructed for video and digital still transects.
Odysseus 6K is configurable with a lifting fixture to deploy and recover subsea packages for ocean observing arrays like National Science Foundation-funded Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) and Ocean Networks Canada Venus and Neptune arrays.
ODYSSEUS 6K MISSION INTERFACE
Housed in the Odysseus Control Van, our mission interface provides state-of-the-art video and data handling along with vehicle control and dive management. ROV pilot, co-pilot, survey/navigation and video data control are located on the primary worktable. Additional seating for Chief Scientist/Dive Lead and other client personnel are provided. An option to establish the primary or additional mission management capabilities in interior ship spaces are easily accommodated.
CONTROL ROOM
The PRS control room is designed with the client’s comfort and ROV operations in mind. Housed in a 20 foot container the control room uses the latest video and data handling equipment to support embarked mission objectives. The PRS control room is also capable of being shifted to interior space on ship.
Flexibility The PRS Odysseus ROV system can be shipped, via truck, train, ship or air in a variety of operational configurations to be cost effective and also to meet the needs of the project budget and timeline.
The Odysseus is designed to operate on DP or non-DP vessels and does not need a specialized Launch and Recovery System (LARS). It is designed to work off of typical A-frames or crane systems found on most capable work and research class vessels. The ROV system weighs less than 3,800 lbs. broadening the number of vessels worldwide that support its deployment.
